Biography

"A grapefruit is a lemon that had a chance and took advantage of it."
Oscar Wilde

Kathy Buchanan had a glitzy apprenticeship on Australia's sunny Gold Coast playing a Police Cadet in the Police Academy Stunt Show and in fishnets, feathers and lace up boots as 'Belle' in the Western Action Show at Warner Bros. Movieworld.

At 21 she was lured to London to follow her secret dream to become a writer. Of course there were a few typically disastrous jobs to work her way through before landing her dream job. There were stints as a 'simply ravishing' promotions girl in a tacky red polyester suit (strike one), a bumbling waitress in a chic French restaurant (strike two) and one of those annoying 'cut you off before you'd been put through receptionists' (strike three!).

Whilst growing up in suburban Brisbane Kathy dreamt of travelling the world and leading an exciting life. She finally found it working in the 'glamorously glossy daaahhlings' magazine industry in London, where she lived for seven years.

Her first big interview was while working on the men's style magazine Esquire with Sting. During her stint on the UK women's magazine Company she travelled on location to The Northern Territory and Greece - where she did some truly 'hard-core investigative journalism' and discovered the ins and outs of outrageous Brits on a 18 to 30 holiday. Kathy B also went undercover as a posh, but very fake 'IT' girl, at the Good Will Hunting premiere and after party where she swapped make-up tips with Liv Tyler and rubbed shoulders with Gwenyth Paltrow and Ben Affleck.

She's mustered cattle at sunrise with a jillaroo in the outback for a Fleet Street newspaper, travelled around the world and hung out on Bondi beach with some spunky soapie stars - all in the name of work!

Kathy B has appeared on popular TV and radio and had her own radio segment on Liberty Radio in the UK. She has interviewed celebrities as varied as Carrie Fisher, Ben Kingsley, Elisha Cuthbert, Christian Bale, Rose Byrne, Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Megan Gale, Jason Statham, Alessandro Nivola, Sarah O'Hare, Saïd Taghmaoui and Ioan Gruffudd.

Kathy has written for magazines in Australia and the UK, including Harper's Bazaar, Cosmopolitan, Elle, Esquire, Oyster, Filmink, B, Empire and newspapers such as, The Sunday Telegraph, The Sun Herald and The Mirror (UK).

She has released three books through Penguin, the ultimate movie and book guide for women called Happy Endings, a very funny and modern guide to manners in the new millennium, Charm School: The Modern Girl's Complete Handbook of Etiquette and a quit smoking support guide for women called Quit for Chicks.

Kathy's done it all - from A-list premieres and parties in London's Soho, to indulging in French champagne at exclusive island resorts. She now lives by the beach in Sydney and is working on her first novel.

Yes, it's a hard life daaaaahlings but someone has to do it!
